Senior Programme Assistant (Nutrition): The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh invites applications from Bangladeshi nationals for recruitment of the following position:
           
Position: Senior Programme Assistant (Nutrition)  
Post Grade: GS-6
No. of posts: 1 (One) Duty Station: Dhaka
Duration: One year (with possibility of extension)

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Nutrition Unit, the Senior Programme Assistant is responsible for the following duties:
  • Undertake negotiations for and prepare project documents (programme strategy, implementation plans and work plans) with government ministries and other participating agencies.
  • Organize project planning missions, meetings and briefing sessions to identify and analyze problems and recommend project;
  • Provide guidance, on-the-job training and assistance to field staff and cooperating partner staff;
  • Assess project performance including utilization of resources and achievement of planned targets;
  • Prepare status and progress reports by providing information and background material for use in discussions and briefing sessions;
  • Evaluate, develop, recommend procedures. Participates in discussions on new/revised procedures and practices; interprets and assesses the impact of changes and makes recommendations on follow up actions;
  • In close coordination with the respective WFP-Sub-offices, undertake regular field visits to monitor/oversee the nutrition intervention implementation, support field offices and report on activities with, critical analysis and lessons learnt and provide feedback for improvements/corrections;
  • Maintain a well coordinated working relationship with key stakeholders and partners;
  • Maintain records on programme activities, from formulation stage through completion, by extracting relevant information from reports, project committees, budget records and other documentation; make information available for country briefs, country profiles, and other related purposes; ensure project cycle deadlines are met; Keep all program files up to date and well organized and ensure easy access by other staff
  • Carry out advocacy and information related tasks for project/programme activities such as making interventions and presentations in meetings, workshops, seminars, missions, etc;

Administrative

  • Monitor the receipt of necessary shipping, freight or other documents and notify the appropriate WFP officer of non-receipt;
  • Monitor, update and track data related to project issues, commodity pipelines and financial allotment status reports, informing the relevant divisions accordingly; ensure accuracy of data related to the above;
  • Issue letters of guarantee and no-charge invoices as instructed;
  • Analyze and prepare projections for food commodities and non-food items to ensure timely call forward and/or local procurement;
  • Assist in compiling monthly statistics on food aid and commercial food shipments to the country;
  • Support in the drafting terms of reference (ToR), field level agreement (FLA), note for the record (NFR) and correspondence to the stakeholders;
  • Analyze contract terms and conditions, and correct any observed discrepancies between contract rates and invoice amounts;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Expected Results: Well organized, complete and accurate reports, records and/or data, put together independently with only general guidance.

Critical Success Factors: Sound judgment; ability to extract, interpret, analyze and format data and to resolve operational problems. Ability to work with minimum supervision; to supervise and train support staff; and to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Minimum qualifications:

Education: Masters Degree in Nutrition (public health nutrition , community nutrition or applied nutrition) or Public Health.

Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible experience, of which four years in nutrition programme implementation or nutrition program coordination. Experience in monitoring nutrition programmes and the ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data sets are an added advantage.

Knowledge:

  • Substantial knowledge of community based food security and nutrition programmes, national nutrition situation including policies and programmes;
  • Skills in utilizing computer efficiently including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint presentations;
  • Good communication and coordination skills are essential including English writing skills;
  • Training skills required.

Language: Fluency in both written and oral English and Bangla.

Programme Officer - Research
Scaling up Community-Based Adaptation with Local Government in Bangladesh (CBA-LG) Project


Key responsibilities:

  • Support the drafting of overall research plans; contribute to strategic and action plans; formulate, develop and continually update research strategies to secure effective implementation
  • Assist in the design/implement models for research projects; gather information for ongoing projects
  • Prepare concept notes, draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications; ensure quality control of translation/adaptation of documents in English
  • Review and analyse issues and trends, prepare impact evaluation or equivalent studies etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to local partners and Gonogobeshona (community research) teams in conducting research on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction using participatory tools
  • Coordinate the preparation and convening of expert meetings relative to research projects and responding to internal and external research queries from colleagues and stakeholders
  • Build strategic relationships with key international institutions, government officials and local partners organisations to contribute to in-country and international research
  • Expand and maintain a network of specialist researchers, research assistants and supervise Field Research Assistants


Required qualifications & competencies:
  • Masters degree in Development Studies/ Sociology/ Anthropology/ Geography/ Environment Science/ equivalent
  • At least 3 years of work experience in ‘applied research’ in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
  • Good knowledge in qualitative and qualitative research
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadline
  • Willingness to extensive field visit
  • Publication on or related to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction is desired

Social Inclusion

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility to support partnership management under the leadership and guidance of Theme Leader, Social Inclusion Theme.

Key Qualifications and competencies:

  • Master degree preferably in English
  • At least two years experience is preferred in the relevant field.
  • Experience in writing feature stories, articles and case studies would be an advantage

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently
  • Proficiency in both English and Bangla

1. Position: Assistant Programme Coordinator, PRIME and LIFT

No. of vacancy: 1 (one)-PRIME and (one)-LIFT

Job station: Position for PRIME is based in Rangpur and position for LIFT is based in Dhaka

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor the project activities regularly.
  • Take corrective measures for proper implementation of project activities.
  • Take initiatives to promote and develop PRIME and LIFT programmes.
  • Assess proposals of different organizations prior to funding under LIFT programme.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree in any discipline from a recognized university with minimum three first classes in the academic life. Candidates having third division/class in the academic period are not eligible to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare plans for ensuring primary health care services for the PRIME beneficiaries. Implement these plans through different partner organizations as well as assess the impact of the health services to PRIME beneficiaries.
  • Lead and monitor the activities of health assistants of the partner organizations.
  • Facilitate training for the health assistants of the partner organizations.
  • Develop and maintain regular contacts with different government/ non- government health-service providers and ensure coordination with them for ensuring primary health care services for the PRIME beneficiaries.

Requirements:

  • MBBS degree from any recognized medical college. Candidates having Masters in Public Health (MPH) will be given preference.
  • Have demonstrable experience in primary health care services.
  • Experience in public health in any NGO would be considered as an additional qualification.

Research Associate / Programme Associate

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a leading civil society think-tank in South Asia, is planning to recruit a number of qualified professionals who are interested to pursue an intellectually challenging career that demands commitment, initiative and creativity.


Research Associate

The ideal candidate will have a Post Graduate/Masters degree in one of the Social Science disciplines including Economics, International Relations, Public Administration, Finance, Business Administration and Statistics. Four first divisions/class in relevant subject or a minimum CGPA of 3.75 is required which can be relaxed in case of foreign Masters Degree/publication in a recognised journal/specialised job experience. S/he will work as a member of the core research team at CPD. Gross s alary is in the range of Tk. 18,000-25,000 per month and other admissible benefits. The candidate must have g ood analytical ability, excellent drafting skill in both Bangla and English, strong communication skill and high computer literacy.

Programme Associate (Project Based)

The candidate will have a Masters degree in Economics, International Relations, Business Administration, Public Administration and Statistics with at least three first classes or a minimum CGPA of 3.5. S/he will work as a member of research/dialogue team of CPD. CPD will offer a consolidated remuneration of Tk. 15,000 per month for this position.

Selected candidates will be provided upto 12 months contract. Based on the performance, s/he may be offered a Research Associate position or his/her contract period may be extended.

For both positions, s/he should have an ability and willingness to work under pressure in a highly competitive environment. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test to be followed by an interview.
